# My TV isn't responding to the app

Make sure the TV is on and online, then open the TVCP app on the TV once. If the Guardian app still can't reach it, unplug the TV for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

When you tap **Lock TV** or change a setting, the Guardian app sends it to the TVCP app on your TV. If the TV can't be reached, the app says **Couldn't reach the TV — try again** or **TV may be off**, or it shows your TV as **Offline** with a **Last seen** time.

Most of the time the TV is asleep or off the internet. Go through these in order and try the app again after each one.

## Check these, in order

1. **Turn the TV on.** A TV that is off or asleep can't receive anything from your phone.
2. **Check the TV's internet.** Play something in YouTube or another app on the TV. If nothing loads, fix the Wi-Fi first.
3. **Open the TVCP app on the TV once.** Find TVCP in the TV's apps, open it, then press Back. This starts TVCP again if it stopped in the background.
4. **Restart the TV completely.** The power button on the remote usually only puts the TV to sleep. Unplug the TV (or the streaming box) from the wall, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. TVCP starts by itself after a full restart.
5. **Update the TVCP app on the TV.** If the Guardian app shows **Update available** next to your TV, see [Update the TVCP app on your TV](https://tvcp.app/help/update-tv-app/).
6. **Let TVCP keep running.** Some TVs close apps in the background to save power. See [Keep TVCP running](https://tvcp.app/help/keep-tvcp-running/).

## Good to know

If you locked or unlocked the TV while it was offline, look at the TV's status in the app once it shows **Online** again, and send it again if it didn't take.
